Transforming Our Future – One Student At a Time

FAQs

Q.
Is Cristo Rey Tampa co-ed?

Yes. Cristo Rey serves young men and young women.

Q.
Must students have above average grades to attend?

At Cristo Rey Tampa High School, we are committed to working with all students to ensure that they are prepared for college and challenged to reach their full potential.  Cristo Rey Tampa will work with students who lack academic skills but who are willing to work hard to achieve the high expectations that we hold. We will challenge students who are already academically successful to achieve even greater success.

Q.
Is there an Entrance Exam?

No, however diagnostic testing will be conducted in order to accurately place students in academic classes.

Q.
Will there be transportation provided to students?

Cristo Rey Tampa will transport students between school and work every day. Designed pick-up locations will be offered for students to ride the bus. We anticipate that some students will get a ride to and from school from a family member.

Q.
Do all students participate in the Corporate Work Study Program?

Yes, as a requirement for admission, all students must be 14 years old and have the necessary documentation to be legally employed in the United States of America.  Students who cannot work cannot remain in the academic program.

Q.
Are there be extra-curricular activities and sports?

Yes! Cristo Rey Tampa will be offering athletic teams and extracurricular activities.  Additional clubs and activities will be offered on the basis of student interest and the availability of moderators.  However, while we are very proud and supportive of our students' extracurricular efforts, it is essential to understand that academics and work always come first.  Students' first commitment on the days they work is to their job, and they may not miss work to participate in sporting events or other activities.  Likewise, students who are struggling academically will be placed in tutoring and may be ineligible for extracurricular opportunities until they improve their academic performance.

Q.
Is there a uniform?

Yes, all students are required to report to school each day in the appropriate dress code.  While the cost of the uniform is assumed by the family, families who really need help with this obligation should contact the school to arrange that assistance.

Q.
What is the average contribution paid by the family?

Families pay as little as $65 a month for their student to attend Cristo Rey Tampa High School.  Families must first apply and qualify for the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship through Step Up For Students at www.stepupforstudents.org.

Q.
Do you need to be Catholic to apply?

No, we welcome students of all faiths and denominations, as well as those of no faith background at all.  The school is open to all interested candidates and religious preferences is not a factor in the admissions process. However, Cristo Rey Tampa High School is a Catholic institution, and a four-year curriculum in religious studies is a requirement for graduation, and regular liturgical celebrations, service projects, and spiritual retreats are an important component of our students' education.

Q.
What are the admissions requirements?

Cristo Rey Tampa High School will admit only incoming ninth grade students for the 2016-17 school year.  An additional ninth grade class will be added each of the three school years after that.

Students wishing to attend must be:
