Congratulations to Steven F., ’20, on his acceptance to the 2019 Saint Louis University Aviation Summer Academy.
Steven F., ’20, was recently accepted to the 2019 Saint Louis University Aviation Summer Academy and received a scholarship. This competitive program is open to only 20 rising high school juniors and seniors with a 2.5 GPA or higher. Applicants must complete an application, and submit their transcripts and a letter of recommendation from a math or science teacher.
Steven’s summer adventure will take him to St. Louis, Missouri, July 7-12 where he will spend six days immersed in the field of aviation at the Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology. The Summer Academy curriculum will include hands-on activities taught by university faculty, flight instructors, and student mentors. Students will also participate in flights with certified instructors and have time to explore the St. Louis University campus and the St. Louis area.
While searching for summer programs that would bring him closer to his aspirations of becoming a pilot, Steven learned of the Summer Aviation Academy. He is looking forward to getting a feel for the field of aviation and college life. While each student will take away something different from their Summer Academy experience, Steven said, “I hope to take everything I learn and put it into my classes so that I will have the upper hand in college.” Steven hopes to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to study aviation and aeronautics.
Steven is the son of Merence and Metrice Wingfield. He is a student worker at Ferman Automotive and is active in CRT Campus Youth Ministry, morning convocation, Boys & Girls Club, and is a member of the Boys’ Basketball team. Off-campus Steven participates in the Mighty Marching Lion Community All-Star Band. Steven was named the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay Club Member of the Year for 2018. He attended Williams IB Middle Magnet School and is a member of Revealing Truth Ministries.
Way to go, Steven! We are proud to watch you soar to your dreams.
